Hop on a historic ride and explore the heart of Asakusa

The rickshaw is a human-powered vehicle invented in Japan over 150 years ago.
Enjoy a relaxing tour through Asakusa with your personal guide.
We’ll take you to hidden sights, local culture, and tasty spots you might miss on foot—plus, we’ll capture beautiful photos along the way!

Hello! I'm Masayuki Furukawa, a rickshaw driver in Asakusa.

At the age of 37, I left my corporate job and jumped into the world of rickshaws.
I love Japanese culture, history, and delicious food—and nothing makes me happier than sharing those charms with others.
Drawing on years of work experience, I always strive to guide guests with care and a sense of security.

I’m also passionate about international exchange and can offer tours in English.
In fact, I also teach Japanese online to students around the world.

Since I have a young daughter, I’m used to interacting with children—so even families with kids can relax and enjoy the ride.

I’ll do my best to make your time in Asakusa one of the most memorable parts of your trip.
Looking forward to meeting you!

Asakusa: Where Edo-Era Charm Meets Modern-Day Vibes

With over 1,400 years of history centered around Sensō-ji Temple, Asakusa is a district where the nostalgic atmosphere of old Edo blends with the lively buzz of a global tourist destination. Here, you'll find retro townscapes filled with Edo charm, as well as vibrant crowds of locals and international visitors mingling together. From the west to the east—and even the hidden backstreets—each area has a unique face. Let us introduce you to the many sides of Asakusa’s charm.

West Side

Lively and Cultural District — Asakusa Rokku Area

Located west of Sensō-ji Temple, the Asakusa Rokku area has long been a hub of mass entertainment since the Edo period.
It was once home to Japan’s first movie theaters, cabarets, musical theaters, and amusement halls, making it one of the most vibrant nightlife spots in Tokyo.

Even today, the area remains lively with a mix of old-school izakayas and new stylish cafés and general stores.
It’s a unique blend of culture and entertainment.

East Side

Cherry Blossoms and History — Sumida Riverside Area

To the east of Sensō-ji lies a scenic riverside area along the Sumida River, rich in both nature and history.
In spring, many people visit for the beautiful cherry blossoms—an iconic Tokyo sight that continues from the Edo period.

You can enjoy the seasonal breeze along the river path while passing important cultural properties and historic buildings.
This is the serene and graceful East Side.

Backstreets

Home of Performers — Asakusa Kagai (Geisha District)

Tucked behind the main streets, the quiet backstreets of Asakusa are home to the historic Kagai geisha district.
Even today, entertainers and artists continue to work here, preserving the spirit of old Tokyo.

You’ll find traditional geisha houses (kenban), exclusive Japanese restaurants (ryōtei), and a refined atmosphere.
With fewer tourists and more locals, this is a peaceful and hidden gem in Asakusa.
